Knit for the Blankets for Canada Society and help keep needy Canadians warm
Canada is a cold place. Perhaps that’s why knitting charities like Blankets for Canada have grown. Or perhaps it’s because of the exceptional organizational skills of Nancy Panting, the founder of Blankets for Canada. Or…perhaps it the kind-hearted volunteers who donate 20,000 hours of their time each and every month.
Whatever the reason, this is a first-rate knitting charity you’ll want to join and help out your fellow Canadians.
Blankets for Canada Society
Nancy Panting founded Blankets for Canada Society in 1998. This registered non-denominational and non-profit registered charity began with the huge goal of knitting 100 blankets in their first year. They not only met that goal, they exceeded it and made 200.
Meeting the Need
The U.S. isn’t the only place experiencing loss of jobs and a slow economy. With the loss of jobs and the rising costs of utilities, the need for blankets and to keep fellow Canadians warm is greater than ever. When you knit for charity and donate a blanket for this cause, your blanket will be given free of charge to those who don’t have shelter or need to keep warm.
Who Are the Volunteers?
Who isn’t would be a better question. Men, women, boys and girls have all joined in. Blankets for Canada has a ‘Back to School Program’ in which kids are busy learning to knit to help others in their area. Senior citizens also get in on the act and stay busy visiting and knitting in efforts to help those in need.
You can find a list of their chapters, as well as a shipping address for your donations, here!

You can keep up with the goings-on at Blankets for Canada at their Facebook group.
