How much of a problem is homeless children in America? It is a wretching and sobering statistic: 1 out of 50 American children will be homeless in their lifetime. Homelessness in adults is tragic in itself; factor in homeless children, and the reality feels heartbreaking. And this is what I love about knitters who create items for charity: their willingness to take a craft they love and use it for good. I know you are one of them, so please read on about Project Night Night.
Making Children Feel Loved
Children are the hardest-hit by the trauma of homelessness. Not only do they suffer physically, but they also suffer emotionally. The emotional stability and warmth they need in their formative years is often severely lacking when they are homeless. This is where Project Night Night steps in to help. They donate over 25,000 Night Night Packages to homeless shelters every year, absolutely free. A Night Night Package is a new canvas tote bag that contains the following: *A new security blanket *A children’s book *A stuffed toy These are distributed to children in homeless shelters, where they become valued possessions and proof that they themselves are valued. In a time of tremendous uncertainty and hardship, these “night-night” lovies provide untold comfort and security.
How You Can Help
