Wondering What to Do with Yarn Leftovers? Try Amigurumi
Tidy up the yarn piles with fun Amigurumi
How many of you have little bits and pieces of yarn that don't really look like they can ever amount to anything but yet you still hang on to them 'just in case'? All of you?
I thought so. Me too.
My inner packrat just loves that I can't bear to toss any leftover pieces of yarn. I hear a hearty mwah-ha-ha in my head each time a drop another handful in the basket. My inner packrat is an evil little bugger.
I think it's time to put that evil little bugger in its place.
Putting leftover pieces of yarn to use with Amigurumi
I have decided to go on an Amigurumi spree. As you may know, Amigurumi is the art of crocheting or knitting cute little stuffed animals or other types of creatures. These adorable toys are easy to make and are a great project for people learning to knit. Amigurumi projects are also a fun way to use up small bits of yarn that you may have left over after finishing other projects.
That last part is what grabs my attention.
I see that Agent Otter at Live Journal Knitting is doing what they can to use up some of their scrap pieces too. This is what they have shared with their followers: "I have so many bits of mismatched yarn in my (inherited) stash; I may as well turn them into something. Even if that something is not exactly serious business."
It was seeing their scrap yarn squiddy that motivated me to get moving on my Amigurumi projects. I like nonsensical projects. They make me smile.
You can find free patterns for Amigurumi online. Since most of these toys are based on cylinders or balls, once you master those shapes you are only limited by your imagination.
It's time to silence that mwah-ha-ha once and for all.
