Want a Quick Charity Knitting Idea? Knit Socks!

4 reasons why knit socks are the perfect charity project

Knit socks are such a great project for charity knitters, and they are so desperately needed by so many charitable organizations. Here are four reasons why knit sock are such a perfect charity knitting project:

KNIT SOCKS - PERFECT FOR CHARITY PROJECTS

1. Come September, every year, the evenings get shorter and the nights get cooler - and I start to knit socks for both local and international charities. There's nothing like the feeling you'll get knowing you're helping someone needy, somewhere, have toasty warm feet!
SHOPPING TIP: If you are buying yarn to knit socks, check out the new 'self-patterning' or self-striping wool blends. You just start knitting, and no matter what size you have on the needles, the yarn works itself into a lovely and colorful pattern right before your eyes!

2. Knit socks are so versatile, too - from baby booties to adult male slipper-socks, the basic knit socks patterns are pretty much the same no matter what type you're making. You can make them tiny and thin (yet warm) for premature babies, or use 4 strands of pure wool together to knit socks/slippers in size large for men.

3. No matter where anyone lives in the world, or why they are a charity recipient, EVERYONE needs socks at some point through the seasons -- so you can knit socks year-round, really, and they'll always fill a need somewhere.

4. Knit socks can also be made out of almost any kind of yarn - from acrylic to cotton to virgin wool, you have an opportunity to use up odd balls in your stash, or mix and match colors.

5. A pattern for knit socks can be turned into a pattern for Christmas stockings, too, so you can fill a seasonal need, as well.

Knit socks - and I'll knit some, too! :-)
