St. Patrick's Day Knitting Patterns for the Irish in All of Us

It's that time of the year to get out the Irish-themed knitting patterns, and I've got four great ones to share with you! You don't have to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick's Day--with its parades, corned beef, shamrock themes, and even green bagels. St. Patrick's Day is a holiday to be enjoyed by everybody. Show off your festive spirit with one, or all, of these great handmade items.

1. Irish Coffee Cozy

If you're like me, you reheat your cup of coffee or tea way too many times to be drinkable. My house tends to be cold and when a hot liquid sits, it defeats the purpose. This clever mug "cozy" (I think of it as a muffler for my cup) will help cut down on the number of trips to the microwave. Knit it in green and white, or choose other colors to match your dishes or décor.

2. Dog Sweater

A few weeks back, I mentioned some adorable free knitting patterns for dogs. Don't forget your best furry friend on St. Patrick's Day - after all, what dog doesn't love a parade? This sweater doesn't feature shamrocks, but you can use a Fair Isle or Aran/cable stitch instead, and the green is enough to make any pooch steal the show.

3. Spool-knit shamrock hot pad

This isn't the first time we've showcased Lion Brand yarns as a great resource for charity knitting and free patterns. It's worth completing a free registration to access instructions for this hot pad, which is a fun knitting project to do with the kids. If you've already made a square loom, this is a great follow-up for knitting without needles. And you're sure to use this on the table year-round!

4. Shamrock cloth

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that my husband prefers a handkerchief to a Kleenex and never leaves for work without a clean hankie in his pocket. I know he'd appreciate this shamrock-themed cotton cloth to show off his Irish heritage, on St. Patrick's Day and every day. You can also use this as a napkin--just make enough to go around!

So happy St. Patrick's Day, and enjoy these four great knitting patterns to help you celebrate!
