Spring Cleaning Springtime Excitement
What are you eager to do when Old Man Winter finally leaves? How about a little spring cleaning?
Spring is hovering just around the corner. A few false starts in some parts of the country had many of us psyching ourselves up for the obligatory spring cleaning and organizing. But then another cold spell came around and snapped us right out of the springtime frame of mind.
Hey there weather, it's not nice to tease people. Get our hopes all high for sunshine and flowers abloom, only to drop another 4 inches of snow to the ground. No fair!
Spring Fever Begets Spring Cleaning
I see I am not the only one in our community with spring fever. One of the writers at Stash, Knit, Repeat was bitten by the springtime bug and did a fine job organizing their craft area in their home. Like me, they found all sorts of interesting items that had been buried amongst the chaos, resulting in newfound excitement all over again.
Last weekend was completely gorgeous weather around these parts, and in addition to a ton of hiking we embarked on a major spring cleaning. I love cleaning, and I love a freshly-decluttered and clean room even more. Look! I have a craft room again! It turns out that there was one buried under the winter's worth of clutter.
I had fun re-sorting the stash, rediscovering old yarns, and petting everything. I tried to shame myself into finishing a languishing WIP by putting it on my dress form. Unfortunately I then lessened the shame somewhat by putting the pieces of my next sweater design on top of it.
Oh the joys of treasure finding when organization mode clicks on. Rediscovering the warm and fuzzies you felt when that skein was first purchased, that one bootie you lost track of 5 months ago makes you say 'ooohhhh, its sooooo cute!' just like you did when you first finished it. (Now if you can only remember where you put the OTHER one...)
Patterns that have been stashed for use when the weather changes, soft pastels to reflect the rebirth of spring and lightweight yarns for warm weather are all fuel for the burning spring fever.
Once confident the season has actually arrived, pull out your craft bins and baskets, reminisce over those unfinished winter projects and lovingly store them for the next cold season. Maybe if we plunder forward with aspirations of daily sunshine and flowers abloom that Old Man Winter will take the hint and leave us alone.
