Loveys for Levine’s Little Lambs is a sweet charity knitting and crochet program designed by Pam, a woman whose own son was hospitalized for a significant period of time. She knows firsthand how frightening it can be for a child to spend time in a hospital.
Whether for a simple procedure or a more serious illness, it can be frightening for anyone to stay in a hospital. But it’s especially so for young children, many of whom may not fully realize why they are there.
After crocheting a small giraffe for a coworker’s son, she noticed how much her own son loved the little “lovey,” and she had the idea to continue to encourage other children in the hospital where her son stayed (Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC) by offering handmade loveys to them. Of course, we all know there is only so much that one person can do… so Pam can use lots of help!
How You Can Help
If you live in or near Charlotte, NC, this is the perfect opportunity for you to help young children who could really use some comfort and encouragement. On the Loveys for Levine’s Little Lambs Facebook page you’ll find lots of photos of the kind of loveys Pam would like to offer to the children at Levine’s.
If you or someone you know loves to crochet, she offers several crochet patterns in links on the Facebook page. If you’d rather stick to knitting, you’ll find a whole bunch of knitting patterns for stuffed animal right here at Knitting for Charity.
When you have one or more loveys you’d like to offer, you can send them to the address printed in the header of the group’s Facebook page.
As you can probably tell, this is a very new program that can use a lot of help in getting off the ground. So if you’re a North Carolinian – or anyone who loves children and wants to give them support and love – I hope you’ll consider charity knitting or crocheting for Lovey’s for Levine’s Little Lambs!
