Simple Free Knitting Patterns for Beginners
Find easy free knitting patterns for those of us just starting out
It can be hard to find free knitting patterns for beginners. There are thousands and thousands of free patterns online, but many of them contain difficult terminology, or involve complicated stitches that the beginning knitter might not feel comfortable mastering.
Before you seek out anything too complicated, there are two basic stitches you should know: the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Since one is just the reverse of the other, these are not too complicated to master. Fool around with them until you feel very comfortable switching back and forth. From there, with those two simple stitches, there are actually many great patterns you can make.
Here are four very simple, free easy knitting patterns from across the web. None of them require more than knitting and purling, and all of them produce fun, interesting items (forget about knitting plain dishcloths in garter stitch). So if you're a beginning knitter, enjoy browsing these patterns -- they should provide you plenty of inspiration for beginning your knitting career.
Free knitting patterns for beginners
These are some of my favorite beginning patterns!
This baby blanket is so easy, it's just like knitting a big dishcloth. As long as you can maintain the tension in your work, you'll have no problem turning out a baby blanket with a very professional appearance. You'll hardly have done any work at all, but everyone will be amazed by your skill.
This is a great free knitting pattern for someone who wants to make something quick and easy but more interesting than you standard dishcloth. A combination of knits and purls gives a great texture to this cloth, producing the image of a paw print smack in the center -- a great gift for pet lovers.
OK, I know scarves aren't usually the most impressive knitting projects -- especially those knit entirely in garter stitch -- but this one looks terrific if you use the specified yarn. You won't believe these are just one long bolt of knitting. They really have a professional appearance.
4. Slippers
These aren't the most beautiful slippers in the world, but they look just fine on your feet, and they certainly do their job of keeping your feet warm. If you're tired of scarves and dishcloths and feel ready to try something new, these slippers are a nice bridging pattern. They're not as complicated or time consuming as some of the harder patterns, but they offer a slight challenge for beginners.
These knitting patterns are sure to keep beginners busy for a while -- and by the time you work through them, you'll be talented enough to take on a new challenge (socks, anyone?). Have fun with these free knitting patterns for beginners.
