Share Your Knitting With Animals At Angel Dogs, Inc.

If you want to try your hand at knitting something different, Angel Dogs, is the place for you.

If you love animals, especially dogs, then you'll fall for Angel Dogs! It's always disturbing when we see an animal treated abusively -- like children, animals can't defend themselves and depend on others to care for them. Unfortunately, shelters and pounds are full of dogs who come from abusive homes or simply have no place else to go.

Many of these animals are hurt or ill, and if they aren't adopted, many will face death. The hard, cold financial arm of business refuses to allow shelters to keep any animals for too long.

But that's where Angel Dogs comes in, lending a helping hand -- or is that paw? -- to creatures in need.

Rescue!

Angel Dogs is a small volunteer organization in Richmond, Virginia, but they need a world of donations! Director Sue Kessler and her volunteers rescue dogs from pounds, shelters, and abusive situations, providing the loving care the animals need.

Anyone who has a dog will appreciate the enormity of this job. Angel Dogs takes care of about ten dogs at a time, and they don't just provide a foster home, either. Each dog visits the vet for spaying or neutering as well as any medical treatment the vet recommends. The dogs stay in their Angel home until adopted.

And Angel Dogs helps with that, too: they hold weekly adoption stands at grocery and pet shops, encouraging people to open their hearts and homes to an animal in need.

How To Help

There are many ways you can help rescue these innocent animals -- and believe it or not, your knitting can come in handy along the way! Angel Dogs is a non-profit organization, completely dependent on others' generosity to rescue these animals. If you live in the area, they are always looking for dog handlers, foster homes for dogs, or donations of dog food.

Even if you're not nearby, though, there's plenty you can do to help! Financial donations are, of course, always appreciated. If you're itching to knit, though, there are two opportunities to do so:

-Around the winter holidays, Angel Dogs sells homemade scarves to raise funds. They would be more than happy to receive your assistance making them!

-You can knit for the dogs themselves! Angel Dogs is always looking for dog sweaters and blankets. You can even make items for cats, if you're a feline-esque person: Angel Dogs doesn't handle cats themselves, but they will donate your creation to an animal shelter on your behalf.

If you're interested in helping out these animals, contact them at angeldogs@helpogs.org. You can help Angel Dogs make a difference!
