Save Money on Knitting Needles by Using Interchangeable Circular Needles

Today is Frugal Friday...

While we have a multitude of ways to save on yarn, we may feel more stymied when it comes to saving on knitting needles. Recently, I've discovered a wonderful way to save on needles that save time as well.

Interchangeable circular needles are circular needles with detachable tips. The tips can be unscrewed from the cables when you want to use the same size tips with a different length of cable, and vice versa. The great thing about circular needles is that they can be used for both flat knitting and circular knitting. And if you use interchangeable needles, instead of buying separate needles in each size, you'll have them all at your fingertips (if you purchase a complete set) or you'll need purchase only a set of inexpensive tips or a cable (if you purchase them separately). It's a great way to save both time and money - two things we knitters can always use more of!

The following are some of the most popular brands of interchangeable needles:

Denise: Denise is devoted to quality knitting needles and crochet hooks. In addition to its availability at local yarn shops and a multitude of online shops, you can also order a Denise Interchangeable Set directly from KnitDenise.com itself. You can also order accessories and any extras you may need.

Knitpicks Options: Knitpicks Options needles feature perhaps the smoothest joins and the most flexible cables of any circular needle on the market. Knitpicks Options come in 3 varieties: Nickel Plated, Harmony Wood, and Zephyr Acrylic. They are also available in starter kits, complete sets, and individual needles. (You could even toss a ball or two of yarn into your shopping cart while you buy your needles!)

Boye Needlemaster: This is the least-expensive interchangeable needle set on the market; in fact, it was the first set ever offered. While most folks believe other sets have since outpaced the Boye in terms of quality, many others still swear by it. It's definitely a good choice for a knitter who is really pinching pennies. The Simplicity website offers tips and cables sold separately in addition to the complete set. The Boye Needlemaster is available in many chain craft stores around the country, including Joann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's. You can also find it for sale on many websites, including Amazon and eBay.

WEBS Bamboo: These durable bamboo needles come in a beautiful silk case and come equipped with a plastic knitter's gauge, complete with a handy cutting edge. This portable and lightweight kit is a great value for the quality. I also love the added benefit of the WEBS website - yarn and additional knitting supplies galore!

Addi Clicks: The newest player in the interchangeable needle market has the popular Addi name and the quality you've come to expect. These are the priciest of the interchangeables listed here, but if you love Addi needles and are willing to save up, you won't be disappointed. Addi Clicks come in 3 varieties: Addi Turbo, Addi Lace and Addi Bamboo. Addi needles are sold in local yarn shops all over the country as well as many online shops, including Amazon and eBay.
