Restore Dignity to Our Veterans with this Knitting Charity
Knit lap wraps and show your support with this knitting charity
Many different people create knitting charities, for many different reasons. Some really tug at your heart. Operation Lap Wrap is one of them.
Operation Lap Wrap
Who doesn't appreciate the men and women who stand on the front lines for our country and our freedom? I'm sure all Americans feel the same way I do and support our veterans one hundred percent -- here are some people showing their support in a tangible way.
Cecelia Jeffery visited Walter Reed Army Medical Center several years ago. She noticed men in wheelchairs leaving the hospital with their shirts off and placed over their laps. Cecelia commented to one of the nurses that it must be hot inside the hospital. The nurse replied, 'No, it's not hot in there. They just don't think visitors can bear the sight of their missing limbs.'
After spending a long night filled with tears, Cecelia began knitting for charity and Operation Lap Wrap. This knitting charity is a non-profit organization of USA Cares that organizes volunteers who donate their time to knit lap wraps that cover the veterans lap and missing limbs while in a wheelchair.
How you can help
The wraps are knitted in the correct size so as not to become tangled in the wheels of the chairs and offer the veterans coverage, but also as a symbol of security and caring.
If you would like to knit for charity and help, just make a 45-inch square lap wrap using any technique or design you want. Send your completed wrap to:
