Looking for Fun Knitting Techniques?

You'll love this knitting technique for fun and easy knitting projects

Don't you just love to try new knitting techniques? I know I do. Especially when they're easy, fast, cheap, and make great projects. What knitting technique am I talking about? Knitting with rags. You won't believe some of the cute and useful things you can knit with old rags.

Shades of Blue Rag Bag

You'll love this purse. The designer gave it a summery look using the light blue colors and the cute starfish button. But really, you could make this purse for any time of the year.

Make it in browns, blacks or other Fall colors and attach a decorative brass or copper button and you have a cold-weather purse. The instructions for this purse are easy to follow and be sure you look around the site for tips on cutting your strips, where to get rags, and how to connect all your rag strips.

The Scrap Happy Scarf - and the Rag Bathmat are from the Laughing Purple Goldfish too.

Both of these patterns are simple and quick to make up. That's one thing I like about this knitting technique. When you knit with rags, you can finish projects in record time. Knit a few of these scrap happy scarves for kids at Christmas and make a few of the bathmats for your home.

Rag Bag

This is another rag bag pattern in a slightly different style. This pattern gives you directions on how to line your purse and I love how the designer used the bright contrasting fabric for a great look. Use this pattern to get some ideas for using other colors.

Start looking around your house. I bet that in your linen closet you'll find old sheets, bedspreads and comforters that are just dying to become a purse or scarf. Peek in your clothes closets and you'll find plenty of clothes that don't fit or are too old and used to donate.

If you really and truly have clean and organized closets without anything to turn into rags, take a trip to the thrift store. Choose old clothing in the same color family and you could make some really cute items. Learning new techniques for knitting is fun. It gives you a little change and brings back some fun into your craft. Try it!
