Sure, there's something self-serving in someone who clears $4.2 million a year "knitting for charity," but who's going to say no to someone who wants to do good -- celebrity or not? And since celebrities do make a decent chunk of money, it's only right for them to give back. In fact, many celebrities have been extremely generous with their earnings, donating to many charitable organizations and sometimes even founding their own!
You've probably heard of Angelina Jolie's efforts with the United Nations or other such much-publicized celebrity benevolence.
