Legitimatize Your Fascination With Celebrity Knitting

Curious about your favorite stars? Check out the details on celebrity knitting.

Have you ever wondered about the celebrity knitting craze? What's that? You haven't heard of it? Well, we're not the only one clacking needles for charity! Hollywood film stars have joined the team. After all, they need something to do while they sit around between set changes. Why not knit?

Who Knits?

You might be surprised at the list of celebrity knitters. Just a few include Julia Roberts, Madonna, Cameron Diaz, Winona Ryder, Sara Jessica Parker, and Kate Moss. In fact, at the 2007 Emmy awards, Jimmy Beans Wool assembled knitting kits and distributed them to celebrities. The Jimmy Beans Wool representatives encouraged celebrities to take up charity knitting, and they were extremely pleased with the response -- especially from male actors!

More than Just a Hobby!

Many actors promote celebrity knitting for charity, and some of them just promote knitting! Just a few of the ways celebrities promote knitting include:

-Julia Roberts plans to star in an upcoming movie called The Friday Night Knitting Club

-Tracy Ullman has published a knitting book

-Model Kimberly Stewart (Rod Stewart's daughter) frequently invites friends over for knitting parties

-Hilary Duff knits to keep herself occupied on airplane trips

With all of these celebrity knitting role models, it should be a piece of cake to inspire young women to take up the craft!

Charitable Endeavors

Sure, there's something self-serving in someone who clears $4.2 million a year "knitting for charity," but who's going to say no to someone who wants to do good -- celebrity or not? And since celebrities do make a decent chunk of money, it's only right for them to give back. In fact, many celebrities have been extremely generous with their earnings, donating to many charitable organizations and sometimes even founding their own!

You've probably heard of Angelina Jolie's efforts with the United Nations or other such much-publicized celebrity benevolence. But behind the scenes, there's a lot of charitable celebrity knitting going on. Even some male stars get in on the act, dispelling the age-old rumor that knitting's a girl's club!

Doing It For Yourself!

Of course, when you come right down to it, celebrity knitting is mostly a matter of interest. We've all known about knitting for charity for years, and we don't need Hollywood to show us how to do it. Still, it's fun to imagine a glamorous Hollywood star clacking away in front of a fireplace. Whether it's charitable or not, celebrity knitting continues to fascinate us!
