Although knitting sweaters for charity takes a little longer than most charity knitting projects, there’s something special about the process. With more time spent knitting, you can put your whole heart into it, your true focus, and when your recipient is a charity as worthwhile as Help Kids India, you know your gift will be genuinely loved and appreciated. Help Kids India provides real aid to poor Indian children ages 3 to 5. They operate “crèches” in the southern tip of India. A crèche is a combination school, day care, and health center. Basic shelter, food, clothing, education, and spiritual nurturing is offered to the children in their care. Every year, each crèche provides each child with two uniforms, a sweater, a pair of shoes, and a backpack. Crèches’ services offer stability to the entire community. When these young ones are cared for, older children are free to go to school; their parents are free to make a living; and the entire community is supported.
How You Can Help
The treasurer of Help Kids India lives in Vermont part of the year, and she and a team of volunteers takes at least 1 or 2 trips every year to this part of India to deliver hand-knit sweaters for the crèches to distribute to the children. Therefore, they have an ongoing need for sweaters.
