Knitting Stitches: Try the King Charles Brocade Stitch

Looking for new knitting stitches to try? Try this brocade stitch to fancy up your work

Do you like texture in your knitting? I do. That's why I like trying new knitting stitches and especially like the ones that add texture to my project. If you feel the same way, you need to try this stitch.

King Charles Brocade

There are many different knitting stitches. Some are simple, some are difficult. The King Charles Brocade is simple but gives good texture to your project. The best way to describe this knitting stitch is raised crisscross diamonds that form a pattern over your knitting.

This stitch is wonderful to use with a solid color yarn and in a project that you want to add more detail but in a subtle way. The stitch is easy. Simply follows these knitting instructions.


Row 1 (RS): k1, *p1, k9, p1, k1; rep from *

Row 2: k1, *p1, k1, p7, k1, p1, k1; rep from *

Row 3: k1, *p1, k1, p1, k5 (p1, k1) twice; rep from *

Row 4: p1, * (p1, k1) twice, p3, k1, p1, k1, p2; rep from *

Row 5: k1, *k2, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1, k3; rep from *

Row 6: p1, *p3, (k1, p1) twice, k1, p4; rep from *

Row 7: k1, *k4, p1, k1, p1, k5; rep from *

Row 8: Rep Row 6

Row 9: Rep Row 5

Row 10: Rep Row 4

Row 11: Rep Row 3

Row 12: Rep Row 2

These easy knitting instructions will give your project a pattern that looks spectacular. To get started using this stitch, try a dishcloth. Follow the instructions above repeating rows one through twelve until you have 8 to 10 inches. This is also a great pattern to use for afghans or to knit squares for charity projects.

It's always fun to try different types of knitting stitches. Learning new stitches keeps your knitting fun and interesting. Try the King Charles Brocade stitch or other new knitting instructions and add to your skill as a knitter.
