Just a Group of Oddballs
No, the knitters themselves aren't oddballs, their projects are. But, before you start thinking they knit weird stuff, think again. This group got together courtesy of Ralvery in February of 2007. Knitters in the Knitting Help Forum decided since they love knitting for charity they should combine their efforts with other knitters on Ralvery. So that's what they did.
Starting in 2007, they began knitting projects for charity. But these aren't your regular charity projects. There's a twist. One of the members starts a project then mails it, knitting needles and all, to the next member. This member adds her yarn and picks up where the previous member left off. This continues until the project is finished.
Each project makes several trips through the mail and there's fun along the way. It's fun to check your mail and find the project from a fellow knitter. It's fun to see what the project is and fun to decide how you're going to add to it. There's also fun when you get some extra goodies and surprises in the package.
What Do the Oddballs Knit?
If this sounds like fun to you but you want a little more information before you commit, here's what you can expect. The Oddballs knit large blankets, baby blankets, pet snuggles and shawls. There are currently 205 members in this knitting charity, but they can always use more. Right now, they're working on 5 full-size blankets, 3 lapghans, 20 shawls, and hundreds of baby blankets.
