Knitting Needles for Charity
Consider donating some of your knitting needles to needy knitters
You love your knitting needles. Come on...I know you do! I love mine. I have all sorts of needles all neatly organized in their cute little cases just waiting...begging for me to take them out and use them. But what do I do with the ones I rarely use anymore? Well, donate them to a knitting charity of course!
Knitting Needles for Charity
Yes, we sometimes get attached to our "things." Things, in this case being our needles that we love and use.
But did you know that there are women in the world who use sticks for knitting? I know...it's shocking. Here we are with our lovely collection of needles and these women, who knit out of necessity, are forced to use sticks.
What can be done about this? One great little girl, Becca Murray, a student at Miles River Middle School, is collecting new or used knitting needles for Chad, Africa. She is collecting new and used knitting needles and sending them to these women.
If you are interested in sending some of your excess needles to women in Chad, contact Becca and get the details.
Here at home there are needs for needle donations as well. Many senior centers could use donations and a great charity called Newborns In Need has use for your extras. This charity knits for newborns and preemies that don't have blankets and clothing and these ladies could always use extra needles to work with.
Of course, if you don't happen to have any extra knitting needles laying around your house collecting dust or you're just too attached, remember that you can always put your knitting skills to good use by knitting for charity.
