Knitting For Charity In Unusual and Creative Ways
Draw attention to the family of charity knitters with these unique ways to pump knitting for charity
If there's one thing I love more than knitting for charity, it's encouraging other people to take up their needles and join the cause. Spreading my love of charity knitting has become something of a crusade with me, and it's a crusade I love. Want to join me? Try out these creative ways to share your love of knitting for charity!
1. Get online
Run a blog, start a website, or even join a knitting group. Whatever you do, the point is to open people's eyes to the wonders of charity knitting. That's what I try to do every time I sit down to write, and if I have even one or two successes, the whole endeavor's worth it. And if each of those successfully converts a few more, we'll have an army of people ready to knit for charity!
2. Start a charity knit circle
Do you know other knitters? Do you have friends and family members who knit up a storm? Why not start knitting charity circle? Get together with your knitting buddies (or those who want to learn) on a regular basis, whether that means once a day or once a month, and work on how to charity knit together.
3. Publicize your efforts
When you make donations, include cards that say "hand knit by Nellie". Not only does that inspire other people to knit for charity, it also tells the recipient that they've received a personally knit item. If you don't want to trumpet your accomplishment, make the card say something like "hand knit by your friendly neighborhood charity knitter" or the like.
4. Share patterns
Put your favorite free knitting patterns online and mention that you're providing them for the purpose of knitting for charity, or even just describe how you used them to knit for charity. Lots of people use the Internet to find free knitting patterns, and it never hurts to get in a plug for charity knitting while you're providing that service.
The simple fact is that charity knitting is a lot of fun, and not nearly enough people know that. But when you put your efforts towards spreading the word, help others discover the joys of knitting for charity as well.
