Comfort doll knitting for charity project

Probably the only thing I love more than knitting is finding a new, worthwhile knitting charity. It just makes me happy! That's what this charity will do for you too -- not to mention how it will help children.

The Comfort Doll Project is a charity project that knits small dolls and sends them to children in Africa who are either infected with HIV or have been orphaned due to the HIV virus. This charity is the brain child of a young woman named Donna.

Here's how the charity works. The comfort doll is a small doll that has been hand-knit and is used for packaging material when sending HIV medication to medical centers in Africa. When the medication has been unpacked, the dolls are then given to children in the area, many who are patients or orphans.

To raise even more money for this cause, Donna contacts musicians, has them autograph or have a photo taken with the doll and then auction the doll on Ebay. The proceeds are then donated to African charities.

For more information on this wonderful charity, you can check out Donnas' Squidoo lens. This project is suited for beginning knitters and advanced knitters alike. Donna estimates it takes a beginning knitter four to six hours to knit one of these dolls.
