Knitting Charities Wrap Others with Love
Learn how you can help knitting charities keep others warm
There are many different knitting charities, all started for different reasons to help different people. This charity is different too. Wrap with Love is full of 'nons' -- non-profit, non-denominational, non-racist, and non-political. All this group wants to accomplish with their charity knitting is to keep people in need warm.
It all started when...
It all started with in 1992 with a kind lady named Sonia. As she was watching TV, she saw a program about poor, malnourished people in Mozambique. She watched as she saw these people struggle for not only food and shelter, but also to stay warm with temperatures reaching between 0-45 degrees.
Sonia wondered what she could possibly do to help and decided to knit. She began knitting for charity and Wrap with Love was born. That was 18 years ago. Over the years, more kind-hearted volunteers joined Sonia in her quest to wrap others with love.
Sadly, Sonia passed away in July 2010 after a long illness. But in her honor and to keep the mission alive, the Wrap with Love volunteers continue to knit, collect knitted donations and help those who suffer from the cold.
As of 2009, charity agencies have distributed more than 157,046 Wrap with Love wraps to more than 30 countries.
Why don't you join these ladies down under and help make life more bearable for those less fortunate? All you have to do start knitting. You can contribute 10"x10"knitted squares or knit an entire wrap. Find free knitting patterns and plenty of pretty pictures of completed knitted wraps on their site.
