Knitting Charities Supporting Women's Shelters

There is an abundance of knitting charities to help women. Why? Because, unfortunately, many women are in need. Due to a wide range of circumstances, many women find themselves, along with their children, in shelters. These women often have very few of their possessions and need many different items. Help meet the needs of these women as well as their children and knit for charity for women's shelters.

Knitting needs for women's shelters

Your first step when you knit for charity to benefit women's shelters is to discover what they need. This isn't difficult because they usually need just about anything you can provide. If you love to knit it, they probably need it.

Knitting for charity is easy. Do you love to knit washcloths? Go wild. Shelters can use as many washcloths/dishcloths you can provide. Many women in shelters have small children and babies with them and appreciate soft, pretty baby blankets as well as bright, colorful, comfort blankets for older children.

Hats, scarves, sweaters, and mittens are also appreciated and can be used regardless of the size you knit. Children enjoy small knit animals to play with, sweaters, mittens, and hoodies to keep them warm and cozy.

Project specifications

As we already noted, the needs are plenty simple choose anything to knit for women in need. Finding projects is simple. Search the Internet for free knitting patterns. There is an abundance of patterns for your perusal.

As far as choosing yarn, take a trip to your yarn stash closet. Take an inventory. If you have small amounts of yarn, use it for mittens and hats. Use larger amounts for afghans and toddler blankets. If knitting baby blankets, choose yarns that are soft and in pretty, pastel colors. Knitting for children is the time when you can combine all your colorful leftover yarns into one bright, colorful project.

To find a women's shelter in your area, check the yellow pages for your city or nearby cities. Again, search for this information on the Internet too. Many sites have lists of women's shelters that would love to receive donations from knitting charities.
