Knit Like a Pro - In 20 Minutes

You can learn how to knit for charity - in 20 minutes!

Do you knit already? If not, would you like to knit? You can learn to knit SO easily, and so quickly, you won't believe it! Whoever thought of putting together 'two sticks and a string' to 'knit' together something that could be useful was a genius, don't you think?

KNIT FOR CHARITY

To learn to knit, go to your nearest second-hand store, and pick up two 'mid-sized' knitting needles (about an eighth of an inch thick should do it) and a ball of yarn - color, texture and type doesn't matter at all when you're learning to knit.

(And by the way, the reason I recommend buying this stuff at a thrift store is so that you won't be out a lot of cash if you decide you hate to knit - and besides, by the time you're done learning to knit, your ball of yarn will probably be stretched, and you'll hate it. ;-)

Actually, learning to knit is not difficult - I've taught many, many people the
basic knit stitches in less than 20 minutes. Sure, like any new skill, you need to practice to get good at it - and that's where charity knitting comes in! It's a GREAT way to practice, because... you know what? Charity recipients don't care how fancy or perfect something knit is - they just want it to be warm or practical.

KNIT FOR FUN

So once you've begun to knit, the next thing you need to do is figure out what kind of knitting interests you - do you think you'd like to knit basic squares, or perhaps blankets or afghans? Or perhaps you'd rather knit socks or scarves or baby hats - or try to knit a few of each! The main thing is to knit something you'll enjoy, so you won't get bored or tired of it.

Finally, you need to look into the charity needs - locally, state-wide, nationally or around the world! There's no shortage of charity projects to knit for, I can assure you - I often have something on the go for a local charity and an international one at the same time! If you do it that way, you're also getting a chance to knit different things at different times, or with different yarns or colors - it's a great way to learn to knit, AND help others at the same time!
