Knit for Children and Make a Difference
Today is Make a Difference Monday...
In a perfect world, all children would be healthy, happy, loved and well cared for. Unfortunately, this just isn't so. But instead of bemoaning this fact and talking about how unfair life is, let's take action and do something about it.
By joining national charities like Today's Featured Charity or knitting for your local shelters and charities, you can make a difference in a child's life. The most popular item to give to children who need comforting is blankets. But don't stop there. Think about other items children need and get busy knitting. Hats, scarves, and slippers are just a few knitted items that can put a smile on a child's face as it gives them warmth.
Read over today's newsletter and think about how you can use your knitting skills to help a child in need.

Today's Featured Charity: Binky Patrol
What's a binky? It's a homemade blanket given to children ages 0 - 18-years-old. The children who receive the blankets are those born HIV positive, drug-addicted, have chronic or terminal diseases, are abused, in foster care or have experienced trauma of any kind.
Binky Patrol has been in the business of comforting people since 1996 and is still going strong. Founded by Susan Finch with five volunteers, today, Binky Patrol has over 160 chapters and approximately 20,000 volunteers. The volunteers range from ages 3 to 93, and they knit, crochet, quilt or sew binkies - from baby-sized binkies to twin-sized binkies.
Check the Binky Patrol website to see how you can either join or start a local chapter. Information for locating a local chapter or starting a chapter is on the site as well as information on how to donate your binkies. Show a child you care with hand-knit binkies.

To knit really special items for kids in need, its good to have a resource ready. That's what you'll have with these books - Easy Kid's Knits for kids aged 3 to 10
and Easy Baby Knits for children 0 - 3-years-old.
Both books are by author, knitter, and designer Claire Montgomerie and have patterns for clothes and cute accessories. Claire's main goal in writing this book was to have patterns that were beautiful but wearable so fussy kids and babies love wearing them. Any of these patterns would make great donations to help needy children.
