Knit for Charity and Help Keep Orphans Warm
Help Hotel Hope and knit for charity
If you knit for charity, you've probably heard of Knit-a-Square. This great charity collects knitted squares to assemble complete blankets and keeps children in South Africa warm. Now Knit-a-Square is helping another South African charity called Hotel Hope.
Help Hotel Hope
While visiting South Africa, Oliver Quambash saw the desperate need of the children. An estimated 1.5 million children survive without parents. And approximately 500 more children are orphaned daily in South Africa due to poverty and HIV AIDS.
Seeing the need of these children, Oliver opened Hotel Hope in February 2009. Hotel Hope's goal of giving orphaned children a consistent family life with Godparents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents in a small, loving and nurturing, family home environment.
Hotel Hope presently consists of two houses, one of which needs refurbishing. Knitters around the world rescue Hotel Hope, but they need much more help. Help these children and knit for charity in two ways.
Knit items for the charity shop that Hotel Hope will soon open. The handmade items are for sale and the money used to refurbish the homes for these children. Also help by supporting the knitting charity 'Knit-a-Square'. They are collecting and sending squares for blankets for the children that currently live in Hotel Hope homes.
Knit squares
Knitting squares for charity is easy. To make these blankets for the children, they need your 8 x 8 knitted square. Free knitting patterns for knitting squares are easy to find.
They will also be happy to receive hand-knit warm woolen pullovers for the children. In many parts of South Africa, the temperature falls below freezing during the winter and the children need to stay warm. The Knit-a-Square site offers free charity knitting patterns that are fast and easy. Download the warm woolen pullover or vest.
The orphaned children of South Africa depend on knitting charities like Knit-a-Square and Hotel Hope to give them shelter and help keep them warm. Even if you've never knit for charity before, start today -- these children need you now.
