Knit for Charity and Cover the Homeless
Knit for charity and help the homeless in your area
When you knit for charity, you just never know what is going to happen. What often starts with one small idea blossoms into a project that benefits multitudes of needy people. This is exactly what happened to some kind people in Arizona.
Covering the Homeless
The Vineyard Church of North Phoenix had an idea -- just a small idea. They decided to use the helpful resources and gifts of knitters in their church and host a small blanket giveaway for the homeless in their city. Their 'small idea' has now turned into an annual 'Covering the Homeless Christmas party' where they serve an estimated 1,200 homeless people.
These kind people recognized the fact that every day, more than 8,500 men, women, and children live on the streets of Phoenix and in shelters every night. They have partnered with United way and other area providers to meet the needs of the homeless.
One way they are helping is by knitting and donating blankets to keep these needy people warm during the cold winter months. Needless to say, the recipients who would otherwise go cold appreciate this greatly.
Up to the challenge?
Are you willing to take your knitting for charities one-step further? Would you be willing to coordinate local knitting charities and others who knit for charity in a worthwhile project such as knitting for the homeless? Maybe you and a knitting buddy can work together and start your own knitting charity.
Your new knitting charity organization doesn't have to be for the homeless. You can choose from knitting chemo caps for cancer patients, knitting for women and children in shelters, knitting for preemies or other seriously ill babies, or even helping the local animal shelter.
There are so many knitting charities just waiting for someone like you to come along and lend a helping hand. Team up with a few friends and knit for charity today. You just never know what might happen!
