When you knit for charity, a simple act of kindness means so much. In 2001, Jenny Carp performed a simple act. She knitted a chemo cap for her friend's twin sister, Jane. What was just a simple act of kindness to Jenny was much, much more to Jane. Jane took the time to tell Jenny how much receiving that cap during her bout with cancer meant to her. That's all it took.
Knitting Pals by the Bay
Jenny took action and has been knitting up a storm ever since. She was convinced if knitting just one simple cap meant so much to Jane; it would to other cancer patients too. Jenny began searching the Internet trying to find groups that knitted chemo caps and came up short. She found nothing in the West Coast area that met the needs of cancer patients.
For over ten years, Jenny taught knitting through a program in her home town of San Francisco. She shared an idea with her group and that's all it took. This knitting charity has been going strong ever since.
They became the Knitting Pals by the Bay and they have knit over 18,200 caps donated to children, teens, and adults from San Francisco to San Jose and Lakeport, California.
