Knit 1, Help 2 is a brand-new charity knitting group that makes its home on Ravelry. It’s so new that its Ravelry page was launched just a few short weeks ago. In fact, if you’re reading this on the day you received your Knitting Nuggets Newsletter in which this article appeared, you can still participate in its very first project!
So what is the purpose of Knit 1, Help 2? It’s simple: to support a variety of knitting charities. I’ll quote their Ravelry page directly: “Every 2-3 months, a particular knitted item (preemie hat, baby blanket, knitted stuffed animal, etc.) will be announced in a thread. Members of the group can knit one or more of that item. The finished item(s) should be sent to the address found in the thread. All of the things that the group knits will be donated to help people in need.”
I really like the idea of this group because I know that some people prefer variety in their charity knitting. Some people get hooked on knitting one particular type of project, but others like to change it up. If you’re one of the latter types of knitters, this is a terrific group to join!
How You Can Help
First, you’ll need to be a Ravelry member. If you’re not a member, never fear, it’s incredibly simple (and free) to join. I recently wrote a series on Ravelry, and the last post explained how to sign up. You can read that post here. Scroll to the bottom under “So, How Do I Join?” and follow the instructions.
Next, find the Knit 1, Help 2 group here and click the “Join This Group” button at the top of the page.
Now, just dive in! You’ll find a thread listing the current project along with helpful patterns and guidelines.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this group develops. If you’re interested in joining a fledgling group and knitting a variety of projects for charity, I encourage you to check out Knit 1, Group 2!
