You might be asking yourself, “Why do I need this book?”
Let me take you back to when I was introduced to knitting. The year was 2007. I had just given birth to my younger daughter about 4 months prior. The last thing I expected was to receive a box full of yarn, needles, and a Klutz knitting book. (Thank you, knitting angel Steph.)
Since you all know how much I love to knit now, you know what happened next: I taught myself how to knit and proceeded to do it obsessively for the next 10 years!
I probably first learned about charity knitting a few years later… and if memory serves me correctly, it was from the Knitting Nuggets Newsletter! Yes, I started my association with the newsletter as a subscriber.
Later, as you may know, I became a writer for the newsletter. That’s how I learned the vast majority of my current charity knitting knowledge! Between reading it avidly for several months, and then becoming a writer for it myself, I discovered just how much there was to learn and know about charity knitting.
That was my shortcut, you could say! I was where many would-be charity knitters start: with a vague idea that you could knit for charity, but only the haziest ideas of how to make it happen. Thanks to my work with the Knitting Nuggets Newsletter, though, I learned a lot in a very short amount of time.
My Problem, and My Solution
Over the last few years, I’ve faced a problem that I believe many of you also face: overwhelm. I was simply swamped by the number of charities, the possible knitting patterns, and the sheer need I saw everywhere. I was writing about it like a pro, but boy, was I completely scattered when it came to my own charity knitting!
When I began writing Knitting for Charity, One Stitch at a Time, though, it all clicked. I realized that all I really needed was a plan. I needed an easy way to take the process of charity knitting, pull it apart, and put it into simple steps. Oh, and some pretty printables would be nice, too!
This is what I hope to offer all of you through Knitting for Charity, One Stitch at a Time. If you’re new to charity knitting, I want to take your hand and guide you through the process of charity knitting step by step (or stitch by stitch!).
If you’re an old hand at charity knitting but feel like you could use greater focus and direction, I want to offer you an easy way to make a plan for yourself and get your charity knitting organized.
