How to Share Free Knitting Patterns

Interesting ways to share free knitting patterns with friends and even strangers too!

We all love free knitting patterns and, if you're like me, you have a few of your own that you're willing to spread around. And of course, it's always fun to get new patterns, too. So whether you're a creator, a seeker, or (like most of us) a bit of both, there are many ways to enjoy sharing patterns in the worldwide knitting community!

1. Start a blog

After all, that's what I did! Blogs are free, easy, and lots of fun. You can post your free knitting patterns and watch as people around the world make them on your behalf -- often, you'll even get photos of people's creations. And if you want some patterns in turn, just post a request -- you're sure to receive them. You can always check out my very own listing of free knitting patterns.

2. Chain letters (yikes!)

Well, not chain letters, exactly. But it's the same concept. We all remember those letters from when we were kids, where you were supposed to send off one postcard and you'd receive twenty in a few weeks? And you never did?

Yeah. This is different because it's voluntary. You get together a group of people (and there are many on the Internet looking for free knitting patterns) and you each copy out your favorite knitting pattern twice, or ten times, or thirty. Then you send one copy to each person on the list, and the next thing you know you have a pile of new patterns arriving every day!

3. Local knitting groups

Believe it or not, not everything has to be online. There are many local knitting groups, especially in large areas, welcoming new members and will be more than happy to share and receive free knitting patterns. If you're feeling really ambitious, you could even try collecting your group's original patterns into a book. Bind it cheaply and distribute it among members, or try selling it with the proceeds going to charity.

These are just three of the many simple ways to share and get free knitting patterns. After all, knitting has enjoyed a resurgence of enthusiasm in the last few years, and people of all ages -- men and women young and old -- are enjoying the craft. That means there's are huge varieties of patterns out there just waiting for someone to use them.

So enjoy sharing your patterns, and pick up some great new free knitting patterns along the way.
