How to Knit Hand Warmers

I need to learn how to knit hand warmers. I come from a long line of women with freezing hands, although it appears that my daughter might finally break the chain. When I sit at my computer I've got a heater for my feet, but there's not much I can do to keep my fingers warm. I started thinking about fingerless gloves, which led to my discovery of wonderful hand warmer patterns.

Knit Yourself a Pair or Give Them as Gifts

If you're one of the lucky ones already enjoying the spring warmth, keep reading anyway-- that cold will come back eventually, and this time you'll be prepared with comfy, cozy hand warmers. Don't forget about friends and relatives who also would love receiving these as a gift for their cold hands!

There are as many different hand warmers to create as there are knitting stitches and different yarns. I like this pattern for its comfort, style, and relatively low level of difficulty. Skilled knitters will only need one skein to complete a pair, while newer knitters, like me, will probably need a second skein.

This wrist warmer pattern scores high marks for just plain fun. If you're not going to match, you may as well stand out in a big way, and bold, bright stripes will help you do it. The easy tube knit requires no purling and the warmers will stretch to fit most feminine wrists.

The lace pattern in these hand warmers makes them a good choice for a basic layer of warmth. Just as with socks, if you need a warmer knit, use heavier yarn or forgo the lace in favor of a cable or thicker rib.

Lastly, I'd like to share this pretty, feminine pattern. Touches such as ribbing on top and bottom, an open knit, and button embellishments make this a little more delicate choice.

Choose one or choose all four of these great patterns that teach you how to knit hand warmers.
