HOW TO KNIT A SCARF: INSTRUCTIONS

Are you ready to learn how to knit a scarf? I'm going to assume that you already know the basics of how to knit, and that you own knitting needles.

If you are going to learn how to knit a scarf, all you need is two skeins of yarn of your choice (and the 'bulkier' the better - a boucle wool is nice, and many of the newer novelty yarns are thick, too), and a set of LARGE knitting needles (as in, size 13 or bigger). The reason for the large knitting needles is that whatever yarn you've chosen to learn how to knit a scarf will knit up quickly and be thick and bulky, like any good scarf should be!

DID YOU KNOW ... the term 'sweaters' was applied to knitted pullovers (that used to be called ganseys or jerseys) after they began to be used for athletic clothes. It is said they were called sweaters because that's what the athletes who wore them did -sweat!

Now, listen to this ... it doesn't get any easier -

Cast on 14 stitches for an adult scarf, and ten for a child's scarf. And then ... knit! That's right, just plow right in with the straight knit stitch, and knit until you run out of yarn! Well, actually, until you have about three feet of yarn left, because you'll need that to bind off, right?

KNIT LOTS OF SCARVES

It's really that simple. And once you've learned how to knit a scarf, you can make dozens of scarves! And you won't get bored with them for a very long time, if you follow just this one piece of advice - simply vary the color or the texture or the type of yarn you are using (or use two completely different strands together) for an unlimited amount of unique and unusual 'looks' - no two ever need to be the same!
