Help Warm Mongolian Children with this Knitting Charity
Mongolia is one of the coldest places on earth -- Help keep their children warm with this knitting charity
If it bothers you knowing that there are children in the world who are cold and without proper winter clothing, this knitting charity is for you. The Dulaan Project started as an effort of the Flagstaff International Relief Effort. Their goal is to inspire and encourage the knitting community to help the impoverished people of Mongolia. If you would like to warm some little bodies up with your hand-knitted items, keep reading to see how you can help.
When I'm warm and toasty in my home during the winter, I have to say it bothers me to know that there are people less fortunate who are huddled together freezing. It bothers me even more to know that many of these 'people' are children.
Arizona to Mongolia
It bothered the people of Flagstaff, Arizona too -- and they did something about it. They knew that Mongolia has extreme winter weather. As a matter of fact, Mongolia's capital city is the coldest capital in the entire world often getting as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. With this in mind, they started the Dulaan project. 'Dulaan' means warm in Mongolian.
Knit away!
By knitting for charity, help the Dulaan project. Knit hats, mittens, socks, neck gaiters, scarves, and sweaters. The project needs these items in all ages and sizes from babies to adults. Keep it warm and simple. Use any yarn you have in any colors you have -- easy!
All donations are tax-deductible and you get free charity knitting patterns.
Donating your items
When you have knit the items you want, pack them in a box, write your name and address as well as the number of and types of items in the box. Put this information in an envelope and tape it securely to the outside of the box. To make it more convenient for you, the people at the Dulaan project have an inventory list for you to print out.
Send your items to:
The Dulaan Project, F.I.R.E.,
PO Box 22187

Help not only by knitting, but also by printing out flyers and posting them at local yarn shops, churches, and libraries. You can also get the message out through email, or posting a message on your favorite knitting blog. Use a ready made flyer.
Knitting charity projects not only warm the recipients, they warm the knitter too! While you're warm and toasty in your home this year, knit and donate your items to this great knitting charity.
