Help Grandparents and Children by Knitting for Charity in Delaware

Start knitting for charity and help these grandparents and children in need

Delaware is filled with generous people who love knitting for charity and they would love to have you join them. Check out these two very worthwhile causes and begin helping these knitting charities today.

The DuPont Grandparent Resource Center/WSC

Times...they are a' changing and with these changes, many grandparents are finding themselves raising their grandchildren. As loving and caring as these grandparents obviously are, they're elderly, retired, and living on a limited income. If you love to knit for charity, this is where you can come to the rescue.

The DuPont Grandparent Resource Center/WSC dedicates itself to empowering the relative caregiver families and the children they are raising. They build community teams that help these families develop strong interdependent relationships that move them toward a brighter future... for them and the children they care for.

The resource center is in great need of sweaters for teens and children. If sweaters are your specialty, start knitting and contact Patricia Anderson-Rice, MSW. The mailing address for donated hand-knit sweaters is:

Binkie Patrol

You probably don't remember your 'binkie', but I bet you remember your child's. I know I do and can clearly remember how important it was -- no naps or bedtimes happened without it. Binkie's are super important to small babies, children, and even teenagers. They offer both comfort and warmth and that is exactly the goal of the Binkie Patrol.

The Binkie Patrol reaches out to needy children including HIV-positive, drug-addicted, neglected, abused, or those who are experiencing trauma in any way. The caring volunteers hand deliver your lovingly made knitted donations that offer warmth, security, and comfort.

A binkie is a homemade blanket (in our case hand-knit) that is washable and cuddly. To donate a binkie, simply knit a 36"x36" square or larger. Yes, older children going through stressful times appreciate their own covers too. For older children, you can make them up to twin bed size. Be sure all binkies you make are made of acrylic yarn for washability.

Contact Norma Skarupa for more information or send your donations to:

With these Delaware knitting charities, you have the opportunity to help those in need from small children to the aging grandparents who are caring for them. Won't you join in and help these knitting charities?
