Even in California, children get cold -- knitting charities come to the rescue. Join these charities and knit items that help keep kids from feeling the chill of cold and neglect.
Nathan's Project
Located in St. Helena, California, this group loves to knit for charity and provide hand-knit items for St. Helena Hospital. Cris Kelly is the coordinator who collects donations and delivers them once every month to the hospital. Knit items like baby hats and chemo hats for both children and adults. If you prefer making blankets, you're in luck -- they need them too! Please make your blankets 30"x30" or 36"x36". Also appreciated are adult blankets roughly 36"x46".

Stitches from the Heart
This knitting for charity group knits for children and supplies items for needy babies. The founder of the group, Kathy Silverton, began her charity knitting career by knitting in car pool lines at school, waiting in doctor and dentist offices and at home when time allowed.
Soon, Kathy's friends took notice and joined her. After an article about her appeared in the Los Angeles Times, over one hundred women contacted her to help and Stitches from the Heart was born. Kathy is the perfect example of how to fit knitting for those less fortunate into your life. Just be creative and make good use of your time.
Join Kathy and her friends as they knit for charity and donate items to babies who might otherwise leave the hospital in only a diaper. Stitches from the Heart is a great way to get started knitting for charity.
Crisis Pregnancy Center of Northern California
The mission of the Crisis Center is to help low-income girls with unexpected pregnancies. They provide layettes for the newborn babies and children up to two-years-old. Volunteer knitters can donate afghans, receiving blankets, and booties for the babies. The toddlers can always use hats, mittens and sweaters.

Sacramento Children's Home
The Sacramento Children's Home is a residential facility for abused and neglected children. The program serves families with newborn babies and children up to the age of 18-years-old. Currently, the home has around 91 children who need items. The children's home would greatly appreciate your donations of winter mittens and scarves, baby blankets, and afghans.
