Help American Angels Support Our Troops!

American Angels provides a great way to knit and show troops overseas how much you appreciate their service

There are many groups dedicated to knitting and serving our troops overseas, but American Angels is certainly one of the most ambitious. Like many such organizations, they make helmet liners, cool neck-ties, and holiday packaging. However, they reach out to far more troops than those overseas, and their items also find their way to children in military hospitals and wounded soldiers.

A World of Ways to Make a Difference

If you love to craft, American Angels can use your help. There's almost no skill they can't put to work helping a soldier or their family, and knitting is certainly not an exception. Just a few things you could knit for this worthy charity include:

--black hats for winter helmet liners
--slippers for soldiers overseas or in hospitals
--Christmas stockings, tree skirts, or ornaments
--an afghan (or "comfortghan") for a wounded solider.

In addition to all this, American Angels has two subprojects that really stand out: the Baby Project and Heroghans.

The Baby Project

American Angels' baby project covers two situations: ill or premature babies born in military hospitals or babies born to mothers whose husband is overseas. In both cases, the participants knit booties, blankets, and other items to not only lend a helping hand to a military family in need, but remind people who may be feeling very alone that they are loved, and their sacrifices appreciated.

"Heroghans"

Another project American Angels has come up with is the Heroghans project. Unlike their "comfortghans," which they send to wounded soldiers, heroghans are for soldiers who have fallen in battle. Members of American Angels craft the squares for a special blanket. The squares are then assembled into an afghan, which they send to the grieving family.
