From the Heart of Texas to a Child's Hands
Whether you live in Texas or New Hampshire, From the Heart of Texas provides a great opportunity for charity knitting
Like so many other groups of charitable knitters, From the Heart of Texas started out with a group of friends having coffee. These women met to crochet, knit, and sew for charity, enjoying one another's company and their shared mission.
However, before long a corner of Houston wasn't enough for these ambitious ladies, and they moved their organization online. Now From the Heart of Texas reaches charities across the world and has dozens of members in their online group.
Jack of All Trades
From the Heart of Texas is the perfect group for people who love to try new things. Each month, the group picks a different charity and gets crafty. That way, you're always knitting something new for someone different.
The group goes far beyond the scope of your average charity knitters. The organizers have dozens of incentives to get you knitting, such as:
-monthly draws among donating members (or if it's your birthday!)
-a traveling hook program where the same hook (and perhaps set of needles) gets mailed around to members who want to participate. You get a fun bit of connection by using those same tools to create something for charity!
-themed afghans to give you something to make squares for
-members willing to teach you how to knit or crochet (or help you brush up on your skills if you think you've forgotten)
The Perfect Home for Your Donations
From the Heart of Texas does a lot of fun, interesting things. Of course, their most important project is simply donating to those in need. Some of the charities benefitting from these women's generosity include:
- Mother Bear Project
- Houston schools
- Native American reservations
- Children's hospitals
- Overseas orphanages
Wow! From the Heart of Texas also accepts donations that don't match their chosen charity of the month. If you want to knit it, they'll find a home for it. One of their most frequent needs? Preemie clothing, caps, and receiving blankets for local hospitals.
If you're getting bored of knitting on your own and want some inspiration to keep you going, check out this dedicated group of crafters. No matter where you're from, you're bound to get drawn in From the Heart of Texas.
