Free Knitting Projects for Christmas
Make impressive holiday decorations with these free knitting projects..
If you're like me, you love free knitting projects and free Christmas projects both -- and if you can string the two together, so much the better. My love of knitting spills into every aspect of my life including, much to my family's dismay, my Christmas holiday decorations.
If you want to blend your love of knitting with your love of the holidays, check out these free knitting projects to help you bring a little yarn to your Christmas season.
1. Knitter's Wreath
What you need:
--craft glue or glue gun
--scraps of yarn
-styrofoam balls of varying sizes (unless you have a wide variety of yarn balls you never plan to use)
--additional decorations: beads, silk plants, bows, ribbons, etc.
--a piece of wire for hanging
What to Do:
1. Place a dab of glue on a styrofoam ball and press a yarn end into it. Wrap the styrofoam with yarn so it looks like one of your balls of yarn in your knitting basket, and then carefully glue the end in place. If you're worried about it coming undone, you may want to spread a bit of glue in other places around the ball.
2. Repeat this step until you have enough balls of "yarn" to form into a circle. Depending on how large you want the wreath to be, and how many of these free knitting projects you want to make, and how large the styrofoam balls are... well, you get the idea. Just play it by ear.
3. Glue the balls together into a wreath shape and add embellishments.
4. Fold the wire into a hook and press the ends into one of the styrofoam balls to make a hook for hanging.
5. Let all glue dry COMPLETELY before you attempt to move this project!
This wreath works just fine as described, but one of my friends threaded a piece of wire through all the styrofoam balls for added stability. You couldn't see it at all when she was done and it gave her piece of mind.
2. Trim the Tree with Balls of Yarn!
This is one of the simple and easy free knitting projects I've found. Last year I had tons of yarn scraps -- too small to do anything with but too pretty to throw away. So I wound them all into miniature balls, glued the ends in place, and looped the yarn over to make a hook for hanging. I had a miniature Christmas tree decorated entirely with balls of yarn. If nothing else, it was a great conversation piece!
There are lots of other great free knitting projects for Christmas, but these should be enough to get you started!
