Free Knitting Patterns for Cozy Cardigans

If you've always wanted to try your hand at knitting a cardigan, here's your chance. With these free knitting patterns and a little time, what do you have to lose? The first time I knitted a cardigan, it took me a while to get up the nerve. I did not want to waste my time or waste my money on yarn or a pattern. The answer to my dilemma came through the Internet and free patterns for knitting cardigans.

As I'm sure you know, there are plenty of patterns for cardigans. The trick is finding one that is free and easy or challenging enough as the case may be. Here are a few to get you started.

Easy cardigan patterns

Shawl collar cardigan

This is a good pattern if you have never knitted a cardigan before. It has a collar but no complicated stitches and is easy to follow.

Cropped cardigan knitting pattern

This cardigan is a cropped with long sleeves. It is finished with a pretty lace edging that is easy for the beginning knitter.

Charlie's Cardi

If you want to try knitting a cardigan for a child first, give this pattern a try. It's small; three to 24 months, so that means it will knit up fast.

Peplum cardigan

This is one of my personal favorites. It's a cardigan but is very in style with its peplum -- cute!

Advanced cardigan patterns

Trellis stitch shawl collar cardigan knitting pattern

This is a very pretty pattern but is more advanced. It has a pretty "embossed" trellis design that may be a bit tricky for less advanced knitters to accomplish.

Brioche stitch baby cardigan

This cardigan is for nine months to 24 months. It won't take much time size-wise but this pattern is for experienced knitters only -- so worth it!

Ardsley jacket

Another advanced free knitting pattern, this is a very pretty feminine cardigan for women.

Well... this should get you started. This is just a sampling but one that has been conveniently sorted for you according to your skill level. So what are you waiting for? You have your needles. You have your yarn and now you even have free knitting patterns to try.
