Fixing Your Knitting Mistakes Part III
Easy fixes for common knitting mistakes
Looking for an easy fix to some of your most common knitting mistakes? In Part I and Part II of this article we looked at a few simple techniques for correcting errors. Here are a couple of final ideas to help you fix those annoying mistakes.
Unravel knit stitches -- stitch by stitch
1. With the stitches on your right needle and your left needle empty, keep the yarn to the back.
2. Take your left needle from left to right through the back of the first stitch one row below the stitches on your right needle.
3. Draw back your right needle, dropping a stitch off your right needle while keeping the stitch below on your left needle.
4. Pull the yarn at the back.
5. Take your left needle from left to right through the back of the next stitch one row below the stitches on your right needle.
6. Transfer the stitch to your left needle and drop the stitch above from your right needle in the same manner as before.
7. Continue in the same manner for the required number of stitches.
Unravel purl stitches -- stitch by stitch
1. With the stitches on your right needle and your left needle empty, keep the yarn to the front.
2. Take you left needle from right to left through the front of the first stitch one row below the stitches on your right needle.
3. Draw back your right needle, dropping a stitch off your right needle while keeping the stitch below on your left needle.
4. Pull the yarn at the front.
5. Take your left needle from right to left through the front of the next stitch one row below the stitches on your right needle.
6. Transfer the stitch to your left needle and drop the stitch above from your right needle in the same manner as before.
7. Continue in the same manner for the required number of stitches.
Both of these methods are an easy way unravel knit and purl stitches when you discover those pesky mistakes, but grafting is another great method for correcting these mistakes.
If you make a mistake when you are using several different colors of yarn in your knitting project, try using "Swiss Darning" to alter stitches of the wrong color.
