More solutions for common knitting mistakes
It's easy to make knitting mistakes whether knitting for yourself or knitting for charity. In Part I of this article we introduced you to 3 of the most common knitting mistakes and remedies. In this article, we offer a few more solutions.
1. Picking up a knit stitch from several rows below
If you noticed that you dropped a knit stitch and you already knit several more rows, here's how you can fix it.
-- Stitch to the position of the dropped stitch. Ensure the loose sections of yarn are behind the loop of the dropped stitch.
-- Insert a crochet hook from front to back through the look of the dropped stitch.
-- Catch the first loose section of yarn with your crochet hook.
-- Pull the loose strand from back to front through the loop.
-- Catch the next loose section of yarn with your crochet hook.
-- Pull this loose strand through the loop on the crochet hook in the same manner as before.
-- Keep doing this until no more loose sections are left.
-- Take the tip of your left needle from left the right through the front of the stitch on your crochet hook.
-- Transfer the loop onto your left needle.
-- Knit the picked up stitch and continue working across the row.
2. Picking up a purl stitch from several rows below
The easiest way to pick up Purl stitches from several rows back is to simply turn your work around and follow the instructions above for knit stitches.
3. Unraveling multiple rows and picking up with a knit stitch
When you need to pick up a knit stitch several rows back it's easy. Just be careful. Unraveling is the easy part. It's the picking up the stitches that you need to be careful with.
-- Take all of the stitches off the needle.
-- Pull the yarn until the top row of stitches is one row below the mistake you want to fix.
-- Beginning on the right-hand side and using a smaller needle, take your needle from right to left through the first stitch on the right.
-- Continue picking up all the stitches in the same manner.
4. Unraveling multiple rows and picking up with a purl stitch
-- Take all the stitches off the needle.
-- Pull the yarn until the top row of stitches is one row below the mistake you wish to correct. Make sure the yarn is on the left-hand side.
-- Beginning on the right-hand side, use a smaller needle and take it from right to left through the first stitch on the right.
-- Continue picking up all the stitches in the same way.
Take heart when you make a knitting mistake. It's easy to do, but by following these simple instructions, they're also easy to fix!
