Encourage Charity Knitting Any Way You Can!
A knit house? Learn how charity knitting is encouraged in Thailand
If you love charity knitting as I do, you're probably like me -- you have a difficult time understanding why doesn't everyone knit for charity. Yes, I have loads of family and friends who would love it if I knit non-stop just for them. But let's face it, we have plenty and there are plenty who have very little.
With this thought in mind, we all need to remember to encourage charity knitting projects and others to knit for those in need. That's exactly what's happening in Thailand and they are doing it with, of all things, a knit house!
Encouraging charity knitting
Yes, a full-size knit gingerbread house. This house is 140 square feet complete with a garden, trees, furniture, food, plants and animals. A textile designer named Alison Murray came up with the idea and enthusiastic knitters from around the world contributed to the project.
Originally knit to help raise money for the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and the North Devon Hospice in 2007, the house is now helping others in Thailand. The BNH Hospital, an international Thai hospital, took notice and asked if they could possibly borrow the knit house to raise awareness and the need to knit for charity.
Called, "Let's Knit for the Needy," the hope is that the novelty of an English knitted house will spark interest among the Thai people to knit for people in need. The house will be on display in a shopping center in Bangkok and later moved to the lobby of BNH Hospital.
This knitted house is just one example of how you can raise interest and awareness about knitting for charity. While you may not be up to the challenge of knitting an entire house, let this be an example and remember to encourage charity knitting among your fellow knitters.
