Knit for charity and make a difference in a child's world
When tragedy strikes, the first to suffer are the children. To offer comfort and speed healing, the Canadian chapter of Teddies for Tragedies is coming to the rescue. So far, the Canadian chapter has sent over 1,000 teddies to children in Mexico, Lebanon, Romania, Costa Rica, Brazil. Learn how you can knit for charity and help children.
What is Teddies for Tragedies?
So, just what is a Teddy? It's a knit or crocheted teddy first given to children in Sudan in 1985 by the Women's Royal Voluntary Services Workers in England.
Two thousand children in Sudan were suffering from tuberculosis. Doctors noticed that the teddies were often just as important to the healing and recovery of the children as the medication was. The teddies were such a success more were requested and the rest, as they say, is history.
You can help children suffering from tragedy today by knitting teddies for donation. There are over 400 volunteers knitting Teddies for Tragedies, but they always need more.
If you would like to knit for charity and help children who are suffering, knit your teddy following the free pattern from the Teddies for Tragedies site. After you've completed your teddy, follow the mailing instructions on the site and mail them to:

Be Sure you mark on the outside of your package:
'Contents: hand knitted teddy bears - gift for charity - no value'.
Otherwise, customs opens the package at the border and charges duty and taxes. Teddies for Tragedies is a non-profit organization and doesn't have money for these fees.
