Beat Boredom by Knitting for Fun

If you've been frustrated with knitting lately, get the love back with one of these fun knitting projects.

As you all know, I'm pretty new to this whole knitting thing. My mother has been knitting around me my entire life, so I understand gauges and yarn choices and ribbing. But my mom, like so many knitters, knits useful things: sweaters, scarves, and blankets. I love and treasure them all. But I've also discovered a whole new world of knitting not out of necessity, but knitting for art's sake and knitting for fun.

Take this hysterical free pattern for knitted toilet paper. It serves absolutely no purpose--you definitely don't want anybody using it. So why knit it? Well, you could tell yourself it's going to be an off-the-wall scarf, and even use it as one. But why not just admit you love a good prank and look forward to putting it in the bathroom for your next unwitting guest.

Anna at mochimochiland is also responsible for creating handknit versions of one of my least favorite creatures--slugs! Anna is truly a knitter with a sense of humor. I have no idea what you'd do with knit snails and slugs, but gardeners would no doubt prefer them to the real thing.

Sure, Halloween comes once a year and you can certainly wear this then. Or be daring and walk out of the house with it on the next chilly day. Disregard the stares you're sure to get from young children--they probably just think you're Stephanie from Lazy Town. Make a few extra wigs in different bright hues and surprise your hairdresser with one.

An oldie but goodie is this giant glove hat or, as I like to call it, the rooster hat. There's absolutely no way somebody can be taken seriously while wearing this hat, and that's exactly the way it should be. Pair it with a smile and you're set to go.

If you've got a vocal Godfather fan in your life, like I do, this Mr. Edless pattern will just crack you up. Don't view it as a waste of yarn or time! Instead, think of the fun you can have with it the next time you go to bed angry. Mr. Edless is a great way to get your point across without saying a word.

Fun free knitting projects. They keep the boredom out of the craft you love.
