Be a Gem and Join Idaho Charity Knitting

Join knitters in The Gem State of Idaho and start charity knitting today

Well, I thought Idaho was the potato state but it turns out they are known as 'The Gem State' and gems they are -- especially when it comes to charity knitting.

Hand in Hand

Without a doubt, Cindy Williams is a true gem. She knits woolen hats, scarves and other clothing to give to the needy. Cindy learned knitting out of necessity 25 years ago when pregnant, but she now uses this skill to teach others, founded Hand in Hand, and began knitting for charity.

Hand in Hand is a local charity knitting group that meets in the Hillcrest Plaza Mall library. Here she gives free lessons and the group makes items that provide warm, handmade clothing for those who need it most -- especially young children.

Cindy believes in doing whatever you can to help others. She states, 'Even if you only knit one hat a month, that's 12 people you've helped in a year.' Great attitude. So if you live in this neck of the woods, why don't you join Cindy Williams at the Hillcrest Plaza Mall and help others.

Northwest Children's Home

If the idea of keeping children warm, warms your heart, why don't you knit for charity and donate items to this great cause? The Northwest Children's Home, established in 1908, is a private, non-profit residential treatment center for children. The children range in age from eight-years-old to sixteen-years-old. The home provides care for neglected, physically and sexually abused boys and girls.

The home could use hand-knit donations of mittens, caps, scarves, afghans, and sweaters to help keep these children warm. Receiving handmade gifts let the children know that someone loves and cares for them.

To make donations, you may choose any size or color that children age 8 to 16 would like and make any of these items. Mail the items to the following address.

There's nothing better to warm the heart than knitting for charities. Both of these charities are worthwhile causes and serve to help many needy people. Won't you join in, and begin charity knitting?
