We all know how much I love finding other Baaad Girls who enjoy charity knitting. Of course, these girls are only bad in the sense that they use a lot of wool to help out the American Cancer Society... but 'bad girls' just has a better ring to it, doesn't it?
Baaad Girls is a super cool knitting charity because they offer a simple way to use up all those odds and ends we collect when we finish projects. Come on, be honest: if you're anything like me, you have at least a dozen tiny balls of yarn kicking around. They're too nice to get rid of, but truth is, they're pretty much useless.
That's where this charity comes in, giving you a way to help others and use up those scraps at the same time.
How it works
The charity itself is fairly straightforward and works the way most knitting for charity does. Baaad Girls sells fun mini sweaters & hats garlands and donate all profits to the American Cancer Society. Obviously, that means there are two ways you can help: buying their products, or making donations.
The finished products are actually really cute -- you might consider whipping up one or two for your Christmas tree next year as well as making your charitable donations. And since they aren't clothing or the like, these items won't require washing -- meaning you can mix types of yarn and not worry about creating problems.
The free knitting patterns
Of course, one of the best things about knitting for charity is free knitting patterns. Obviously, Baaad Girls don't expect you to pay to help them out, so the patterns for these adorable garlands are available on their website. There are even pattern variations in case you get bored making your mini hats!
This is a fantastic project for quick knitters who don't like messing around with things like gauge. The Baaad Girls aren't picky: they don't fuss over small variations in size (OK, if you knit your 'mini' sweater with size 33 needles, they'll probably get a bit irked), and they welcome projects in all colors, styles, and fabrics.
