ASG Brings Hope to Patients Suffering From HIV

ASG provides warmth, information, and security to terminally ill patients.

ASG -- Aids/HIV Services Group -- does a lot of stuff. I'm not saying that to build them up too high or cut other charities down. They just do a lot of stuff. There's no other way to say it. They provide help and information for patients suffering from HIV and AIDS, they provide community education resources, and they attempt to halt the spread of the infection.

But more importantly, ASG provides support to those society all too often turns its back on.

Suffering in Solitude

What could be more awful than learning you had a terminal disease? Well, how about learning you had a terminal disease when you were all on your own: no family, no job, no food, no cash.

We all know how AIDS works at this point: the disease attacks your immune system until a common cold can prove fatal. And of course, the homeless and destitute are far more likely to become ill than your average American citizen. Additionally, someone who can't afford dinner probably won't be able to afford the costly medications to keep their illness in check.

That's where ASG comes in. ASG works with HIV positive individuals in all categories, but they have a special place for homeless and destitute patients.

No One Should Suffer Alone

Many charitable organizations provide temporary shelter and food for homeless individuals. ASG goes one step further. They know that when HIV positive patients live on the streets, both their psychological and physical health fail rapidly. That's why ASG provides a home and food for homeless patients.

But many patients need more than just a home: they need blankets, clothing, and, most importantly, the knowledge that they're not alone. And that's where you come in.

Knitting Hope

ASG does a lot of work, but their resources are limited. ASG greatly appreciates donations of knitted blankets, gloves, hats, scarves, sweaters, and socks. Not only are these items necessary to a patient's well-being, they send the important message that someone cared enough to invest time and effort on their behalf.

If you don't have a lot of time on your hands, ASG has volunteers of their own. They gladly accept partially finished projects, including afghan squares, which their volunteers will finish or knit into a blanket.

So if you're interested in being a light of hope to someone in need, ASG might be the charity for you. Remember that every little bit helps. The volunteers at ASG know this only too well.
