Anam Cara Knits For The Smallest Tornado Victims

Make life a little better for infant tornado victims with Anam Cara knitting

Anam Cara is an organization dedicated to helping children touched by natural disasters, particularly tornadoes. Lately it seems like there are more natural disasters than ever before, both at home and abroad. We all feel for those who survive (and those who don't), and many of us contribute to relief efforts through financial donations.

But Anam Cara knitting recognizes that sometimes, it's about more than providing food, drinking water, and shelter -- especially for small children. Many children are injured in natural disasters. They lose their homes, members of their family, their belongings, even one or both parents. What these children need is far more than physical support.

Enter Anam Cara, with their mission to provide comfort and security to the youngest victims of tornadoes throughout the country.

Knitting for charity with a mission

It doesn't matter where you live or how much you knit, Anam Cara gives you an opportunity to support a national knitting charity that aims to touch children across the nation. The charity started out for the smallest victims, knitting hats and booties for babies touched by natural disaster.

While the knitting charity still does tons of this type of work, knitting for babies and the like, they are also branching out to older children who have come through these disasters. For example, the latest free pattern (yup, they have free knitting patterns too) is for a soft can cozy.

What practical use does a soft can cozy provide? None, really -- but again, that's not the point. If you want to charity knit practical, needed items, that's awesome too.

But Anam Cara is less about providing physical necessities than emotional support. And while a child headed back to school might not physically need a soft can cozy, receiving a handmade gift that says 'I'm thinking of you' definitely hits the emotional spot. There are many organizations providing physical support. Anam Cara, like many who charity knit, recognizes the huge psychological factor to disaster recovery, too.

As always, there are many ways to help out. Knitting for charity, obviously: browse the patterns and send some donations. Or donate old yarn and knitting needles. Best of all, just visit Anam Cara's Facebook page. Here you'll find a wonderfully friendly and supportive group of charity knitters working together to make the world a better place.

If you've ever wondered how you can make a positive impact in the lives of children, look no further. Anam Cara really does live up to the idea of knitting from the heart, matching tornado ravaged children with small gifts that remind them they are not alone. Visit Anam Cara and check out this exciting knitting charity today.
