Cast On With Casting Off the Cold

With Casting Off the Cold, it doesn't matter if you're in Trinidad or Canada, you're going to make a difference.

Hobby knitter Sally Karamath was born in Trinidad, where her family frequently helped the poor and homeless. After moving to Canada, she was disappointed to see the number of homeless people suffering in the cold winters and decided to help. That quickly, Casting Off the Cold leaped into existence, and it's grown at an exponential rate ever since.

Kids Knitting Patterns for Any Occasion

For some reason, kids knitting patterns aren't as common as those for babies. I guess it makes sense: we knit a lot of things for baby showers, and babies are tiny, so you can whip up a lot of socks in the same time it would take to make an adult sized sweater.

But knitting for kids is fun, too. Whether you have children of your own or want to make a charitable splash, the clothes in these free kids knitting patterns are sure to fit the bill for any occasion.

Unique Baby Gifts to Knit

Looking to knit unique baby gifts? Getting tired of baby blankets? Then you'll love these free baby patterns to knit.

Once again we're in that rush of time where everyone I know seems to be having a little bundle of joy, and I decided I just didn't want to knit a thousand blankets, as much fun as that may be. So I set out on a mission to find some other fun baby knitting patterns, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Street Knit Keeps Toronto Warm

The good folks of Street Knit do what knitters do best: share their talents and dedication with people in need. Every year in Toronto, hundreds of people freeze to death in the harsh Canadian winters because they have nowhere to go. As the Street Knit website says, they can't knit shelters -- but they can knit hats, sweaters, blankets, scarves, and more to keep people warm this winter.

Knit Toys for Charity

If you've never knit toys before, you're missing out. Not only is it a lot of fun (plus it's a huge break from all the other patterns you've ever tried - guaranteed!), it fulfills a part of your inner child you probably didn't even realize was crying out for attention. It is, trust me.

Knit toys are awesome for another reason, though: they make fantastic charitable contributions. I love to make a knit toy and drop it personally to a patient at our local children's hospital. They are so excited to get a gift from a stranger, especially when they learned you actually made it. I always bring along a set of needles, because most of the time, they want to learn how to knit themselves.
