Join a Knitting Charity and Save Lives

If you've visited Knitting for Charity before, you know that I think all knitting charities are wonderful and support great causes. We feature knitting charities around the country that benefit people around the world. But every so often, I come across a knitting charity that is founded for extremely personal reasons.

As wonderful as all the charities are, personal knitting charities tug extra hard at the heart. This is the case with Cure Caps.

Knit for Charity -- Help the Hat Box Foundation

The Hat Box Foundation is a non-profit organization that makes and distributes hand-made hats to people with cancer. They firmly believe that something made from the heart helps heal the human spirit. Every hat is made by volunteers from across the country who knit or crochet from the heart. Those who can't knit or crochet volunteer with generous donations or with distribution.

Learn to Knit with a Knitting CD or DVD

When you're trying to learn to knit, it can be embarrassing. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just don't "get it." Maybe listening to verbal instructions doesn't help you learn. Or, the problem maybe your teacher's technique or instruction style.

Regardless of the reason, if you really want to learn how to knit, try a knitting CD or DVD. They are relatively inexpensive and won't lose patience with you! With a knitting CD or DVD, keep working at a lesson until you "get it."

Knit for Charity and Help Children Around the World

You don't always plan to knit for charity -- sometimes, it just happens. This was the case with Susan Caccivio. In 2003, Susan founded Knitting for Angels. She taught herself to knit while going through the process of adopting her son from Belarus and daughter from Russia.

Her children loved their 'mama blankies' so much, she realized that the many children left behind in the orphanages needed blankets too. What started with two kind-hearted knitters has expanded to 300 and is growing daily.

Encourage Charity Knitting Any Way You Can!

If you love charity knitting as I do, you're probably like me -- you have a difficult time understanding why doesn't everyone knit for charity. Yes, I have loads of family and friends who would love it if I knit non-stop just for them. But let's face it, we have plenty and there are plenty who have very little.

With this thought in mind, we all need to remember to encourage charity knitting projects and others to knit for those in need. That's exactly what's happening in Thailand and they are doing it with, of all things, a knit house!
